The Swiss engineering company Stadler introduced a battery-powered hybrid train, which in 2019 will start carrying passengers on some lines in Germany. The Flirt Akku battery-powered electric train, launched in Berlin as part of the presentation, can travel up to 80 kilometers on a single charge at a speed of 140 km / h.

Thanks to the train, this mechanism of operation, the train can serve 80% of the routes passing through non-electrified sections in Germany. Batteries are recharged while driving with power from a contact network or at end points of non-electrified lines. The new train is intended to replace the diesel rolling stock currently in operation. It has 154 seats with a total capacity of 310 people.
