Heady notes of French Beaujolais!08 November 2018 07:28
Exactly at midnight on the third Thursday of November, regardless of the time zone, the Beaujolais tasting of the new harvest begins. The annual Beaujolais Nouveau festival takes place in a small region north of Lyon. This holiday, also referred to as “the day of the winemaker,” starts from the town of Bozho and continues to celebrate throughout the country, allowing you to assess how successful the crop was this year.
The start of the holiday was marked by the phrase “Beaujolais has arrived!” (“Le Beaujolais est arrivé!”), Which serves as the motto of the Beaujolais Nouveau festival. Winemakers, holding in their hands lighted torches from the vine, a solemn procession overlook the town square, where barrels of young wine are already installed. And at midnight, plugs are knocked out, and the Beaujolais Nouveau drunken streams begin their next annual journey through France and the whole world.
The young wine from the grape variety “game” has a rather rich flavor and aromatic bouquet, but the Beaujolais is not adapted for long-term storage. A few days before the holiday of the new harvest from small villages and cities of the Beaujolais region, millions of bottles of young wine begin their journey from France to countries and continents, where people are already looking forward to it in stores and cafes, restaurants and clubs.
