New Museum of Contemporary Art in Vilnius04 November 2018 12:32
A new Museum of Modern Art has opened in Vilnius, bringing together more than 5,000 works by Lithuanian artists. The museum in the form of a square, combining modern design and medieval architecture, is located on a new public square just a few steps from the historic center of the city. The concept of the project was drawn by the authors in the construction of a historic gate in Vilnius.
As you approach the building, a staircase appears in front of the guests, which “cuts through” the facade. If you climb it up to the top, you can get to the open terrace, which serves as a venue for events. Through a five-meter glass wall from here you can admire views of the gallery.
In the museum you will be greeted by a snow-white lobby and a black spiral staircase, along the perimeter of the hall there are small windows through which you can spy on the archives of the museum. The galleries are located on a large open space of 1300 m² where there are permanent and temporary expositions. The museum has a cafe, bookstore, educational and auditoriums, as well as administrative premises.
